Editor’s Picks: Dr. Lonnie Smith, Snoop Dogg, Veni Vidi Victor, Pan Pan…

CALENDAR: Following are a few favorite show picks for December 2015. See the full calendar of events at http://whatsup-magazine.com/calendar/

Dr. Lonnie Smith • Dec. 2 • Whatcom Jazz Music Arts Center

You can file this one under “AMAZING!” Dr. Lonnie Smith is one of the ultimate badasses on organ – a consummate jazz musician who lives in the moment, creating sound and textures within and outside of song structures. And he’s playing in Bellingham. Seriously. Don’t miss this.

Bobby Bare Jr.  Dec. 3 • The Green Frogbobby bare jr web

I’m pretty sure I have Bobby Bare Jr. as a pick of the month every time he plays. He’s one of my favorite songwriters and puts on a helluva live show. In the end, isn’t that what it’s all about?

Pan Pan • Dec. 4-5 • Fairhaven Firehousepan pan web

If you’ve been a fan of the mag for any length of time, you know the love and respect I have for Sarah Jerns, aka Pan Pan. She’s back with a new performance titled “Rooms” which includes her modern classical compositions, with dancers James and Maia Schaberg and visuals by Matt Curtis. A truly one of a kind experience in Bellingham. Be there.

Helms Alee, The Crawl, Powwers • Dec. 12 • The Shakedownhollies birthday show web

It’s Hollie’s Birthday Show! The Crawl is one of those local bands that people who are in the know (some of whom have been around here for years) get this look in their eyes when they talk about them. These guys are going to be one of the next great bands in town. And the fact Helms Alee and Powwers are also on the birthday bill makes it sweet.

Veni Vidi Victor • Dec. 13 • The Wild BuffaloPrint

Please show your support at this benefit show for Victor Goteleare – friend, sales rep for this mag, and community member who has helped many. All proceeds go towards his hospital bills and family expenses. The auction/raffle starts during the Seahawks game (10 a.m.) and Acorn Project performs later that night. Double awesome. Please show your support and give what you can.

Snoop Dogg • Dec. 21 • Wild BuffaloCalvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., Snoop Dogg

SNOOP DOGG IS PERFORMING AT THE WILD BUFFALO!!! Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God. Obviously, this is an amazing, don’t-miss show. Get your tickets NOW, this will sell out! Sure, maybe you won’t eat for a week to afford the tickets, but who cares! SNOOP DOGG IS PERFORMING AT THE WILD BUFFALO!

New Year’s Eve • Dec. 31 • Everywherehappy new year web

New Year’s Eve. Time to let the good times roll. There will be music and celebrations all over the place from Glow and Rumors to Swillery (Black Beast Revival), The Wild Buffalo (Five Alarm Funk) and The Green Frog (Baby Cakes), and more. Just walk around downtown and soak in the revelry. Be safe.
